Friday, July 19 – Twelfth Grade Night

Happy Friday, my fellow bookworms! Thanks to our incredible campers and guest authors, we’ve enjoyed an amazing week together, and we kept those positive vibes going strong to close out the 2024 camp session today. Our final camp Friday was all improv and acting, Shakespeare and fairytales, belly-laughing, and the best karaoke you’ll ever hear in your life. Intrigued? Of course you are! Thursday, July 18 – Her Radiant Curse

Wednesday, July 17 – Max in the House of Spies

WARNING – SUPER SECRET SPY SECRETS AHEAD – READ AT YOUR OWN RISK

Today was an extra-special spy day at camp! In honor of today’s book Max in the House of Spies by Adam Gidwitz, we became super secret espionage agents. To start off our day we took time to do some awesome writing and drawing activities while we waited for every member of the team to arrive. Once our spies were all at home base, we were able to send them on their first mission!

Tuesday, July 16 – True True

Today we met Don P. Hooper, author of our book of the day True True. True True is a story of a Black teen from Brooklyn named Gil who struggles to fit in at his almost entirely-white Manhattan prep school, resulting in a fight and a plan for vengeance. Our campers really liked this story, with one camper noting that the last chapter was some of the best writing she had ever read. Campers especially loved the realistic descriptions of different places in New York City and felt that Gil was a very relatable protagonist.

All About Week 2!

Welcome back, my fellow bookworms! Week 1 of the 2024 camp session is a wrap, and we had a blast: from zines to original short plays, from the Strand to Little Island, and with lots of laughs, books, and rounds of Werewolf in between. But we’re not done yet! We’ve got a whole new week of amazing books, author visits, field trips, games, and activities ahead of us.
